surgery day

Marshall was a trooper today. He knew something was up and started to get a little anxious before we even got to the surgery center this morning. By the time they had us in the little waiting room he was pretty upset. He really didn't want to put the gown on because he said, "those are for girls." We explained that daddy had to wear one of those when he had surgery and that boys wear those too. He still wasn't happy about it but he put it on. There was a little TV in the waiting room and Mickey Mouse was on, he would settle for a bit while he watched and as soon as a nurse came in the room he would cry. Poor buddy kept telling me, "Mommy, I feel scared."

The worst was when the nurse had to pry him out of my arms. Marshall was leaning back for me with his arms out crying, "I need you, Mommy." As soon as he was out of sight, I cried too.

The surgery was pretty quick, 15 minutes. We then had to wait another 15 before we could go back to see him. When we got back there he was VERY upset. The nurse seemed to think he was most bothered by the IV in his hand. He refused anything to drink, he just wanted to be held. After 30 minutes in recovery, they took the IV out and let us head home.

On the way home I told him he was an "awesome boy." He told me "awesome boy cried, mommy." Scott explained that even though he cried he is still awesome. Then he asked for a donut! Of course we made a quick stop at Dunks for a sprinkle donut, his fave!

Getting into the gown, crying, but at least distracted by Mickey.
