Welcome to the world, Lily Jane!

Scott and I put Marshall to bed on the evening of the 30th at Tom and Staci's house. We both cried as we tucked him in that evening. It was so bittersweet for both of us. We were so excited to meet our girl but we also knew a chapter was coming to a close. Marshall's life would never be the same and we weren't sure how he would handle this major change.

We got up at 4:00 a.m. the morning of the 31st and got ready to head to the hospital. We were checked in at 5:30 and then we waited. At 8:30 they took us to the operating room. I got my spinal block (which was only 85% effective, OUCH), Scott was allowed into the OR, and by 9:00 a.m. we had a 7 pound 1 ounce baby girl.

I was SO drugged. Because the spinal block was not totally effective, they gave me something through my IV that made me fall asleep almost immediately after this photo was taken.

It started to snow on Christmas night and into the following day. We ended up with about 4 inches and Marshall loved playing in the white stuff with his daddy. This is the first white Christmas South Carolina has seen in 30 years. So fun!

Christmas Morning

We had a perfect little family Christmas. Marshall woke up and asked if Santa had come. Of course he had! We took lots of video but not nearly enough pictures.

Marshall had lots to open, thanks to all the gifts being sent in from Texas. Scott and I had decided to just get him a few books and a small toy. We ended up having a living room full of gifts and they were almost all for Marshall! He didn't complain. We took a short break about halfway through and had some cinnamon rolls and then returned to the presents.

It was so nice to wake up in our own house on Christmas morning, something that Marshall has never done. We have always been traveling. We had a sweet time with our little man, knowing that this would be the last Christmas that it would be just the three of us.

Since I was VERY pregnant around Christmastime we decided to skip the 12 foot Christmas tree and just go with a smaller real tree. There is a tree farm less than 2 miles from our house so we decided it would be easiest to go there. It was so fun riding to the tree farm and selecting our tree. Katie and Kyle were visiting for Thanksgiving so they were able to join us on this little adventure.

Marshall really enjoyed helping put the ornaments on, many ornaments ended up on the very bottom branches. Sweet memories with my sweet boy.

things he says

I just wanted to remember some of the sweet and funny things Marshall is saying right now. He has quite the little personality and talks ALL. THE. TIME.

"chicken-uh-fil-a" - That's his favorite restaurant, chick-fil-a.

"spargucks" - On the way to church one morning Scott stopped to get a coffee. Marshall asked what that green place is called and we told him "Starbucks." He insisted that it was not Starbucks, it is "Spargucks."

"frusterator" - When Marshall is feeling frustrated he tells us, "That's makin' me feel frusterator."

"fork" - We build these frequently out of blankets and pillows in the living room, what kid doesn't love a fort? Or a "fork?"

"voon" - Marshall pronounces most words very clearly, however, nobody but family would know that when says "voon" he is actually saying spoon.

Some of the sweet and funny things he has said recently:

"Thank you for sharing your doctor with me daddy." - Marshall was refferred to an ENT for chronic sinusitis. We decided to use the same ENT that did Scott's surgery back in Novemeber. As we were prepping Marshall for the visit, we explained that he wasn't going to his regular docotor, but that he got to see daddy's doctor. He was quite thankful to his daddy for sharing with him!

"She's so marbelous." - As I was feeding Lily, Marshall came over and stroked her head and looked at me and said, "Mommy, she's so marbelous." We don't know where he heard the word marvelous. We have called Lily sweet, cute, and precious, but never "marbelous."

"I will take care of you." - Scott has had a busy couple of months with work and has been out of town more than he usually is. One morning after waking up he asked me, "Is daddy home?" I told him daddy was still out of town but that he would be home later that day. He hugged my leg and said, "I will take care of you." Scott tells him he's the man of the house while he's gone so he must take his job very seriously.

He is growing up WAY too fast. If I could freeze him at this age, I totally would. He is a sweet boy and so funny. I'm loving the two's!

Christmas Play

Marshall had his Christmas play at school the other day. As you can tell by the video he was excited to see his Mommy and Daddy. The video is very long so only family will be interested! Make sure you turn off the music at the bottom of the page.



A few comments about the video:

1. Marshall might get a future diagnosis of ADD
2. His teachers have the patience of Job.
3. Halfway through the kid behind Marshall to the right, starts eating his shoe. Apparently that's what donkeys do.
4. Marshall sings: "Little grey donkey, clip clop, clip clop, on his way to Beccahem." The assistant in his class is Ms. Becca.
5. A 12 minute perfomance is too long for two years olds as noted by the rolling on the floor during the closing prayer.
6. Marshall decided that it was important to stand for each song. That's how we do it at church afterall. And also direct the group at one point.
7. Marshall can seriously crack me up like no one else ever has. Love him!

We haven't been taking many pictures lately. Marshall came down with croup, apparently cousins share all sorts of things. A steroid was prescribed by his doctor and my sweet little one has just not been himself. A few adjectives to describe Marshall on prednisone: cranky, aggressive, fussy, needy, moody. He just really hasn't been himself and quite honestly my patience was starting to run thin. Fortunately he took his last dose today and I am hoping he returns to his happy little self quickly. Someone, please tell me that stuff gets out of their little systems quickly! He finished up the nasty medication just in time. I almost sold him for 23 cents yesterday and I would have been making out really great on that deal. I kid....kind of.

Scott has surgery tomorrow so he also has been on prednisone for the last week in preparation. These two have been a match made in heaven. :) Hopefully the Crawford family will all be feeling better in the coming weeks. I'm hoping by Thanksgiving everyone is healthy and feeling good.
